Last week, in the council hall of the University “Lavoslav Ružička” in Vukovar, a cooperation agreement was signed between the Croatian Hypertension League and the University VEVU. With this act, University VEVU became the first university of applied sciences in Croatia to become a member of the Croatian Hypertension League, joining medical faculties in Osijek, Rijeka, Split, and Zagreb.

According to Academician Bojan Jelaković, the League gathers all healthcare and non-healthcare professionals, all those who can contribute to the fight against hypertension. The League has two main goals: promoting the profession and the “hunt for the silent killer” (hypertension, elevated lipids, and blood sugar).

In line with the League’s main goals and in collaboration with the University “Lavoslav Ružička”, on November 11, 2023, a blood pressure, glucose, and lipid measurement campaign was conducted in the center of Vukovar. Students and professors from the University VEVU and students and professors from the Faculty of Medicine in Osijek participated in the campaign.

Despite adverse weather conditions, there was an exceptionally high turnout of citizens for the League and University ‘s initiative.

During the campaign, 95 people with elevated blood pressure, lipids, or blood glucose were registered. All participants received a booklet with measured values and were advised to consult their family doctor if further examination was needed.

At the end of the campaign, a brief meeting was held where University VEVU students, as new members of the League, received instructions on participating in future activities in Croatia.
