📌From June 8th to 11th, 2023, the Croatian student championship “UniSport Finals 2023” was held in Poreč, with over 1200 student athletes from 17 higher education institutions competing in 12 sports. At the opening ceremony, Zlatko Mateša, the President of the Croatian Olympic Committee, emphasized that this was the largest multi-sports event in Croatia this year.

📌Our University “Lavoslav Ružička” in Vukovar participated in the finals in 7 sports and returned from Poreč with two bronze medals.

The women’s teams won bronze medals in futsal and football. 🥉🏆💪

📌The women’s futsal team lost in the semifinals to the University of Zagreb team with a score of 8:2, but they won the match for the third place against the University of Sjever with a score of 12:1. The winners were the students of the University of Zagreb, who defeated the University of Split team with a score of 5:0. The Vukovar team consisted of: Tara Stipanović (captain), Marta Mikinac, Ana Kamerla, Dea Rosandić, Ivona Perak, Martina Kovačić, Laura Sušac, Nikolina Jelić, Leona Ahmeti, Petra Kovačević, Josipa Josipović, Helena Vranjković, Laura Lončar, and Bruna Gutzmirtl. The coach Ivica Radoš and the team leader professor Dražen Pejić deserve credit for the great success of our girls.

📌The same group of students achieved fantastic results in big football, winning the third place after a loss to Split with a score of 6:1 and a victory against Zadar (3:0 technical win). The VEVU team consisted of the same players, with Ivana Malarić replacing Bruna Gutzmirtl. The team included: Tara Stipanović (captain), Marta Mikinac, Ana Kamerla, Dea Rosandić, Ivona Perak, Martina Kovačić, Laura Sušac, Nikolina Jelić, Leona Ahmeti, Petra Kovačević, Josipa Josipović, Helena Vranjković, Laura Lončar, and Ivana Malarić, with team leader and coach Dražen Pejić.

📌At the Unisport Finals, we also witnessed the chess mastery of teams from the University of Zadar (men’s and women’s), the University of Zagreb (men’s and women’s), the Technical University of Zagreb (men’s and women’s), the University of Rijeka (men’s and women’s), the University of Split (men’s and women’s), the Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek (men’s and women’s), College Ivanić-Grad (men’s), the University of Dubrovnik (men’s), the University of Sjever (men’s), and our University “Lavoslav Ružička” in Vukovar (men’s and women’s). In the men’s competition, the University of Rijeka students emerged as the best, while in the women’s competition, the University of Zagreb students claimed the top spot. The VEVU men’s chess team achieved fifth place, consisting of Andro Matak, Bruno Blažević and Franko Alduk. The women’s team from VEVU University achieved fourth place and competed with the following lineup: Maja Kresonja, Ema Volarević, and Valentina Benčić. The team leader of the chess team was Sanja Gongeta.

📌 The beach volleyball competition attracted 9 men’s and 13 women’s teams from universities across Croatia. Among all those talented athletes, the students of the University of Zagreb stood out as the best, winning two gold medals. The men’s beach volleyball team from VEVU University achieved sixth place. The lineup of the beach volleyball team consisted of Josip Vrgoč and Vukašin Kljaić. The female students were slightly more successful, and only a few points separated them from entering the medal competition. They competed with the lineup of Petra Dugandžić and Marija Vrban, with Jana Lukačević as their team leader.

📌 The streetball court at Zelena Laguna Resort was the venue for the national university finals in 3×3 basketball on June 9th and 10th. Over the course of two days, five women’s teams and ten men’s teams competed. The team from the University of Split emerged as the winner in both the men’s and women’s categories. The female students from VEVU achieved fifth place and competed with the lineup of Ana Pehar, Ana Mijatović, Tea Saračević, and Martina Munivrana, with Tatjana Ivić Lovrinović as their team leader. The male students, under the leadership of Igor Modalek, secured sixth place and competed with the lineup of Aleksandar Vuković, Jovan Đuričić, Mihajlo Ostojić, and Luka Gavranović.

📌This year, the table tennis finals featured 10 teams in the men’s competition, showcasing representatives from University of Applied Sciences in Karlovac, University of Zagreb, University of Applied Sciences in Zagreb, University of North, University of Rijeka, University of Slavonski Brod, University of Split, Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek, University of Dubrovnik, and our own University “Lavoslav Ružička” in Vukovar. On the other hand, the women’s competition consisted of only five universities (UNIZD, UNIZG, UNIRI, UNIOS, and VEVU), and their matches were played in a round-robin format. In both categories, the University of Zagreb students emerged as the best. The men’s table tennis team from VEVU University secured 7th place and competed with the lineup of Luka Saboci, Tvrtko Pranjić, and Manuel Relatić, with Sandra Lovrić as their team leader. The women’s table tennis team achieved 4th place and competed with the lineup of Martina Vučkovac, Jelena Ključević, and Jelena Đerić, with Sara Bajić as their team leader.

📌 Students from eight universities (University of Zadar, University of Zagreb, University of North, University of Rijeka, University of Split, Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek, Croatian Catholic University, and University “Lavoslav Ružička” in Vukovar) and female students from six cities (University of Zagreb, University of North, University of Rijeka, University of Slavonski Brod, University of Split, Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek) participated in this year’s tennis tournament at the Finals. In the men’s competition, the team from the University of Zagreb emerged as the winner, while in the women’s competition, the team from the University of Split convincingly took the top spot. Our VEVU University participated only in the men’s competition and secured the seventh place. The VEVU team competed with the lineup of Ronald Bertić, Mihael Horvat, and Dario Babić, with Slobodan Stojanović as their team leader.
