International Women’s Day is celebrated every year on March 8. It is a day dedicated to honoring the social, economic, and political achievements of women.
The idea of marking a day dedicated to women emerged during the period of rapid industrialization when working conditions were extremely harsh. On March 8, 1857, textile workers in New York organized public demonstrations to protest against poor working conditions and low wages.
Today, the position of women in society is still far from equal to that of men. Discrimination and violence persist, not only in parts of the world where women’s fundamental human rights are systematically violated but also in developed democracies.
This is why awareness continues to be raised, emphasizing that equality has no alternative and that any form of discrimination is absolutely unacceptable.
We extend our warmest wishes to all female students and staff of the University of Applied Sciences “Lavoslav Ružička” in Vukovar on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
