Today in our VEVU Alumni section, we introduce Filip Šimunović, a bachelor’s in physiotherapy. In our conversation, Filip answered a few questions.

Tell us about your career in the handball national team and generally where you have worked since completing your studies…

My first employment after graduation, in the form of an internship, was at the Polyclinic for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in the “Brezovica” home in Zagreb. At that time, I was open to new experiences and aimed to acquire new knowledge and skills, so I volunteered at the Handball Club Zagreb. Simultaneously, throughout that year, I volunteered daily at PPD Zagreb. After completing the internship, I returned to Vinkovci and immediately volunteered at HNK Cibalia. What was important to me at that time was applying the acquired expertise from physiotherapy courses over the years (Maitland level 1, Maitland level 2a, DNS, …). Shortly after returning to Vinkovci and based on the competencies I demonstrated during volunteering, I received an invitation to work as a physiotherapist for the men’s senior handball national team and an invitation to work at the “Neurospine” Special Hospital for Neurosurgery with a team of top experts. Today, I can say that I am extremely satisfied with my role and workplace.

Activities you were involved in during your studies…

Sport was always important to me, so during my studies, I played futsal and competed for the Student Sports Association SUSVEVU. Numerous appearances for the VEVU futsal team allowed me to participate and play for the Croatian U21 futsal national team. Being part of sports and the camaraderie during studies is, in my opinion, the best part of that period of studying, marked by numerous travels, gatherings, and friendships.

Message for current and future students…

I would recommend VEVU and the Study of Physiotherapy to all future students because they will gain a beautiful profession there, always finding motivation to help patients, and it offers many possibilities, choices, and advancements. Also, it is crucial not to forget how important it is to continually invest in oneself through lifelong learning, education, and courses.
