The University of Applied Sciences “Lavoslav Ružička” in Vukovar marked its 20th anniversary on September 20, 2025, with a ceremonial session and the presentation of awards and recognitions. In addition to staff and students, the event was attended by numerous guests from the academic community, representatives of local and regional authorities, as well as the Minister of Science, Education and Youth, Prof. dr. sc. Radovan Fuchs.

Over the past two decades, the University VEVU has grown into an important higher education institution offering modern study programs and continuously engaging in projects that support the development of the local community and economy. Since its establishment, it has educated numerous professionals whose knowledge and competencies contribute to the development of Vukovar, Vukovar-Srijem County, and the Republic of Croatia.

In his address, Minister Radovan Fuchs emphasized the significance of the University VEVU for the entire region and expressed the Ministry’s support for further enhancement of higher education programs and student standards. “Twenty years is no small feat. It may seem like a short period to some, but I believe that for Vukovar and for Croatia as a whole, it is very important that this institution has proven its value and justified its existence. That means a great deal – not only for this city but for the entire region. The University VEVU has launched programs that were in demand, and it is especially important that the number of students is growing, which is extremely significant today. This further validates the institution’s role,” said Minister Fuchs.

The Dean of the University VEVU, in his speech, thanked all employees and students for their contribution to the institution’s development: “We can say that these were 20 challenging years, but today we have grown into a respectable institution, recognized not only in Croatia and the region but also in Europe. We have many international and high-quality partners, a large number of students – which is most important to us – and of course, new plans for future development, so we can provide our students with the highest possible standard of education.”

The University’s leadership, headed by Dean Sudarić, emphasized that 20 years is only the first stage in achieving long-term goals. In the coming period, the focus will be on strengthening international cooperation, developing new study programs, and enhancing scientific and research activities.

The ceremonial session concluded with a special program, a group photo, and a reception with the guests, accompanied by the message that the University of Applied Sciences “Lavoslav Ružička” in Vukovar remains firmly committed to its mission of education, research, and social responsibility.
