As part of the “Honey Days” event, held on October 12 and 13, 2024, in Vukovar, the successful collaboration between the Vukovar ’91 Beekeepers Association and the University of Applied Sciences “Lavoslav Ružička” in Vukovar continued. The event, which gathered representatives from ministries, local government, beekeeping enthusiasts, experts, and local producers, provided a platform for sharing knowledge and experiences on the importance of sustainability in bee product production and support for the development of beekeeping as an economic activity.
Zvonimir Filipović, an economics graduate and lecturer at our University, gave a presentation on “Opportunities for Small Honey Producers in Large Retail Chains,” highlighting how small honey producers can gain access to retail chains through strategic collaboration using the concept of domestic honey bottling plants. He also emphasized the importance of academic community support and the transfer of expert knowledge in the process of strengthening the local economy.
The event represents a continuation of the partnership between the University VEVU and the Vukovar ’91 Beekeepers Association, which began with the round table “Sustainability in Honey Production” held last year. The goal of this collaboration is to contribute to the development of sustainable beekeeping and support the education and professional development of beekeepers, thereby strengthening the local community and contributing to ecosystem preservation.
The University VEVU proudly supports such initiatives and continues to collaborate with local producers, providing expert assistance and educating future generations of specialists in the field of sustainable development and entrepreneurship.
