The role of ALUMNI communities at higher education institutions is not only to maintain connections between former and current students, but also to actively participate in socially beneficial, humanitarian, and collaborative projects that contribute to the local community. This value was once again demonstrated by the Association of Graduates of the University of Applied Sciences “Lavoslav Ružička” in Vukovar ALUMNI VEVU, which, as a co-organizer, made a significant contribution to the successful implementation of the 9th Vukovar Cross-Country Race “I Run and I Help”.

Despite extremely unfavorable weather conditions, rain, and cold temperatures, the event gathered around 150 participants across 22 categories and once again showed that humanity, togetherness, and solidarity overcome all obstacles. The event gained additional value through the participation of numerous young people, persons with disabilities, blind and visually impaired competitors accompanied by assistants, and retirees, confirming the inclusive character of this unique event.

All proceeds from this year’s race, organised by the Lions Club Vukovar, are intended for the project “Help Line”, which provides 24-hour monitoring and assistance to elderly, ill and vulnerable individuals living alone.

Significant support in organizing and implementing the event was provided by the City of Vukovar, the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service (HGSS), the Athletics Club Maraton Vukovar, and numerous volunteers who, despite the rain, contributed through their dedication to ensuring the safe and successful realization of the event.

The ALUMNI Association of the University of Applied Sciences “Lavoslav Ružička” in Vukovar extends special gratitude to Dean Assist. Prof. dr. sc. Željko Sudarić, prof. of profess. stud., for his continuous support of the Association’s activities, promotion of humanitarian values, and support in organizing and implementing the Vukovar Cross-Country Race.

The ninth Vukovar Cross-Country Race once again sent a strong message from the Hero City – when sport, humanity, youth, and togetherness unite for a noble cause, even the harshest weather conditions cannot stop a good deed.
