{"id":41234,"date":"2024-11-16T15:23:11","date_gmt":"2024-11-16T14:23:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vevu.hr\/dan-sjecanja-na-zrtve-domovinskog-rata-i-dan-sjecanja-na-zrtvu-vukovara-i-skabrnje-2\/"},"modified":"2024-11-28T09:01:01","modified_gmt":"2024-11-28T08:01:01","slug":"dan-sjecanja-na-zrtve-domovinskog-rata-i-dan-sjecanja-na-zrtvu-vukovara-i-skabrnje-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vevu.hr\/en\/dan-sjecanja-na-zrtve-domovinskog-rata-i-dan-sjecanja-na-zrtvu-vukovara-i-skabrnje-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Remembrance Day for the Victims of the Homeland War and the Victims of Vukovar and \u0160kabrnja"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On the occasion of marking November 18<sup>th<\/sup>, Remembrance Day for the Victims of the Homeland War and the Victims of Vukovar and \u0160kabrnja, the delegation of the University VEVU laid a wreath and lit candles beneath the central monument at the Memorial Cemetery of the Victims of the Homeland War, in memory of the killed, fallen, and missing Croatian defenders and civilians.<\/p>\n<p>On January 1<sup>st<\/sup>, 2020, the Act on Holidays, Memorial Days, and Non-Working Days in the Republic of Croatia (Official Gazette No. 110\/19) came into force. Article 1, paragraph 1, item 11 of the Act proclaimed November 18<sup>th<\/sup> a national holiday and non-working day, named as Remembrance Day for the Victims of the Homeland War and the Victims of Vukovar and \u0160kabrnja.<\/p>\n<p>In memory of the suffering of the Borovo Naselje district of Vukovar, where our building is located today, we will pay tribute to all victims on November 19<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>The city of Vukovar holds a special place in Croatian history and represents a national symbol of resistance, sacrifice, victory, and unity in defending the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Croatia during the Homeland War. Croatian citizens honor the sacrifice of Vukovar, as well as the heroism and martyrdom of Vukovar&#8217;s defenders and civilians, with deep respect.<\/p>\n<p>The heroic defense and sacrifice of Vukovar are etched in golden letters in Croatian history and serve as the cornerstone of modern Croatia.
